I heard that it was split not so much by party lines, but by who was facing tough upcoming election races. Those in danger of losing their seat almost unanimously voted no and only two of the yes votes were considered to be in "heated" races. (Of course, I've now read so many articles that I can't find the link to that fun fact...sorry.)

Moral of the story: I guess you can celebrate independent thinking and a strong sense of self-preservation.

Love the post Dan. So true and so many people don't realize what they "assistance" will do to us long term. We are such a short term reward society that this is all we are blinded to see. Love the insight!

Doctors are humans and they do make mistakes. However, instead of the tick, you could have gotten bitten by a variety of mosquitoes, and Dengue fever can be fatal if untreated. At least it will put you out of business for a few weeks. the second time you get it, it may become hemorraghic and it could kill you even with supportive treatment.

You could have also gotten bitten in Zimbawe by the same mosquito, Aedes aegyptii, which carries both Dengue and Yellow Fever. If you get Yellow fever you you have a 50% chance of dying and there is no treatment except rest.

Also remember that after 21 your immune system begins to deteriorate. So you are more likely to get sick especially when you travel internationally since you have no acquired immunity; i.e., some indegenous poulations only show a 5% mortality rate for Yellow Fever compared to 50% for foreign travelers.

The fact is that there are about 30,000 deaths worlwide of Yellow Fever and another 30,000 deaths due to Dengue, but there are 50 million reported cases of Dengue in the world.

it happens.

I wish all Americans could visit a country in crisis such as the visit we just had to Zimbabwe. A spectaculer area with wonderful people brought down to the lowest levels of existance by a life sucking institution called "it's government." We were looking for a Ron Paul in the late 60's when LBJ wanted me and my friends to support his agenda in Vietnam. We followed it up with greed and the need to think we knew what was best around the world....hell, just look at us. Dan, I hope your generation can do better than mine. I am ashamed that we sold out and futhered the problems.....but I will never be quiet again. Thank you and thank Dr. Ron Paul. Freedom is too important to be allowed to be limited....the world's general well being and hopes ride with us. I hope this start to visitng the issues and good sense grows and expands in the years to come.

The strange part is neither party (as far as I can tell on the news) wanted the banks (e.g. Bear Stearns) to be bailed out, but the hidden forces of the "Fed." are doing it anyway.

I think there is a part for the Justice Department in this mess, seize all the personal assets of the “financial experts” and throw the scam artists into jail for fraud.

Man from U.N.C.L.E.

I wouldn't trust Glenn Beck any farther than I could throw him. He's a regular Mo, and they always slide far right sooner or later. I do agree on one point ... we shouldn't use America Farm Land to grow fuel.
