For those with which I have previously discussed the topic of the importance and what it means to have enough, please consider this beautiful story:

An American businessman was standing at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

“How long it took you to catch them?” The American asked.

“Only a little while.” The Mexican replied.

“Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The American then asked.

“I have enough to support my family’s immediate needs.” The Mexican said.

“But,” The American then asked, “What do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds you buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats.”

“Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own can factory. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But senor, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years.”

“But what then, senor?”

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO (Initial Public Offering) and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions, senor? Then what?”

The American said slowly, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos…”

The Best Clip Yet

It almost gave me goosebumps… If you are not onboard with Ron Paul yet, I just don’t know what else I can do. I would all but swear you either aren’t paying any attention to the candidates or you just aren’t living in the same country I am.

So my first big race ever was this weekend, and surprising as it is, I didn’t die! I ran the 10 miles in an hour and 33 minutes which would have been good enough for second place if they would have let me into the 70-74 year old division! It was pretty fun though and it was fun to see (again) how good Shannon is (beating me by just under 20 minutes).

Here’s a link to the results… I’m number 20 (20 of 33) in the Male 25-29 division, Shannon is number 6 (6 of 63) in the Female 25-29 division.

I’m going to run one more time I think at the Denver Marathon in October. Shannon and I will again both be running (as well several of my friends from work)… 13.1 miles this time with a goal for me of again finishing (hopefully on the same day that the race started also, haha). After that it is on to ski season or something else where I don’t get beat so badly!

Most important of course, is the fact that I am totally going to be ready to chase down pheasants in North Dakota with Dad in October!

I had a really great week and I don’t have anyone to brag too, so I just wanted to let out some of my happiness on here!

I didn’t want to be the only fat one left in the family. So I started eating healthy like Dad and working out like Dan. You guys have done AWESOME, by the way. I’m in awe at both of you. And quite inspired. This week I lost 8 lbs! I also improved from only being able to run the first 6 minutes of my runs, to a full 12 minutes. ( Yes, Shannon, there really are people out there that are THAT out of shape.) Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “gee, hope someone doesn’t try to kidnap her, she wouldn’t even make it down the block” BUT if you will notice, I DOUBLED my running time! I don’t EVER want to run a 10 mile race.. NOT EVER like my rockstar brother, but being able to make it up to my classes on the 4th floor without breaking a sweat would be cool. Along with that, I made it through my first couple weeks of school, found all my classes and even got an A on my first exam of the semester! I also officially completed the paramedic program & received my certificate! I have to still take the national licensing exams the weekend of the 22nd. The LAST step and then I’m through with that. I also managed to keep my apartment clean (thanks, mom!) , catch up with some old friends and ex-roommates. I think this is the beginning of a gah-reat year!

Thanks Mom, Dad, Dan I love you guys. More updates along the way.
