It’s Playoff Time… even if it is the NBA 09F911029D74E35BD84156C5635688C0

I must express my apologies to those touched by the tragic events at Virginia Tech. Being in High School, 40 miles down the street when the shootings went down at Columbine, I really can relate a little. I played golf several times with a kid who was shot twice in the Columbine library. I know this is not like seeing your friends shot like som many at Va. Tech did but I still realize it causes a great deal of pain and sorrow.

Yet something distrubs and that is why I must apologize. I, IN NO WAY, want to diminish the sorrow involved in the Virginia Tech situation. I could not feel more deeply for those involved. However, the media coverage, my god. You would think this has been the worst thing that ever happened in America next to Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

“The Viriginia Tech Massacre” is still the headline every night on TV. What is it, in the context of world events over the past 100 years (or 10 years), that qualifies this as a massacre. 32 innocent people died. On any given day, if only 32 die in Iraq, it is good day. If only 32 die in Darfur, it is a great day. Where is outcry for ALL of our fellow man… we are ALL God’s children after all aren’t we? Or do young American college kids actually rate higher on the “God’s children” scale?

And of course, once the “Massacre” headline is taken down, its on to the next story… should gun control be a central issue in American politics again. Somehow this makes no sense to me either. I understand the parents and everyone are looking for someone to blame but gun control? What about crazy psycho nut-job control? This kid was out of control for years and obviously a threat to society, guns have been around over a hundred years and society does just fine. But I would like to thank the NRA for their continued march on the issue throughout all of this… there is nothing I appreciate more than that bunch of clowns continuing to make it look like every gun owner in America is a crazy redneck ultra-conservative confederate flag waving freak.

I guess some of us still just want to hold people responsible for the actions and not have those poor actions infringe on the freedoms we all enjoy. And, some of us would like to see all of those who are so into being like Jesus, do it consistently for all of our brothers and sisters across the globe.

Much love to you though Virginia Tech.
